Since first harnessing its power, humans have lived in an uneasy alliance with fire.  It is one of the more fantastic and versatile forces at our disposal and has made possible either directly or indirectly many of the scientific and mechanical advances in technology to which we owe our current status of living.

But while its energy is wonderful and useful when under control, fire can be a terrible hazard when left unchecked.  Columbus fire suppression contractors have the experience and understanding necessary to develop a full and complete fire protection system.

Fire Alarms

Probably the oldest form of fire protection, a good alarm is worth its weight in gold.  Before much of the real work of combating a fire can be done, people need to be aware of it in the first place.  Alarms can be set up individually or in a series.  When placed in a series, every alarm goes off when even one of them senses a fire.  This can be very useful when used in conjunction with an annunciator panel which shows the actual location of the first fire.  This allows you to find the source quickly.  If a home or building is small enough that each alarm can be heard from any location then individual alarms are a good and less complicated option.

Automatic Sprinklers

Mandatory in commercial or public buildings, sprinklers begin to fight the fire as soon as it is sensed and come on in concert with the alarms themselves.  Water is not the perfect agent for putting out all fires but it is the most universally useful tool for the job.  Automatic sprinkler systems provide the first line of defense against out of control fires and provide time for people to organize further measures if they are needed.  But a sprinkler system alone is not sufficient.  It needs to be properly designed and integrated into a larger system of protections and preventive measures.

Quality

When it comes to finding a Columbus fire suppression contractor, it is best not to go for a budget outfit or go with the first guy you find.  Make sure they are qualified to design and install the work and that they are known for good workmanship.  You should also take care to ensure they are familiar with your particular needs.  Many forms of production and manufacturing use chemicals and processes that require suppression techniques that are not standard and have to be in mind from the beginning of the design phase of the project.
